Job Brief

You will be a critical operational leader in the External Affairs team, working closely with and as an internal proxy for our Founder & CEO. Your overall objective is to make sure current and potential investors know about Thomas Management Real Estate and know that we are awesome. This includes dynamically combining these responsibilities across the fund life cycle for all products:

Capital Raise and Investor Relations

  • Own the formalization and refinement of business practices for investor relationship management, enabling a high-quality, consistent investor experience across all products 
  • With External Affairs, collaboratively map the investor customer journey to prioritize areas in which to minimize friction and maximize delight
  • Maintain a deep knowledge and understanding of TMRG’s investment philosophy and ethos which you can effectively communicate to prospective investors and champions
  • Leverage brand and product knowledge to drive new assets into TMRG investment strategies
  • Inform the development of new sourcing and outreach strategies across institutional, philanthropic, family office, and individual investor personas
  • Oversee the consistent development and maintenance of narrative-driven data rooms
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of due diligence questionnaires and prepare responses to investor inquiries that require cross-functional collaboration
  • Manage the narrative experience for active investor reporting, including some combination of drafting summary letters, curating impact snapshots, strategizing speakers or pull quotes as needed, maintaining investor call schedules and talking points, coordinating the development of supportive visual assets, and preparing external or executive participants

Marketing

  • Collaboratively develop and implement a global marketing strategy positioning TMRG as a thoughtful, trustworthy partner and leader in impact investing
    • Ensuring high-quality marketing and public relations that raise the profile of TMRG’s mission and brand via earned media, conferences, and investment insights
    • Overseeing the production and distribution of thought leadership and insight pieces for investors, champions, peer practitioners, and/or media at least quarterly
    • Maintaining the heartbeat of our impact with regular website updates, email newsletters, and social media engagement
    • Balancing writing materials yourself and managing internal and vendor relationships to deliver the goods
  • Support an intentional conference and event strategy across the company, including directly engaging as appropriate in networking, outreach, industry meetings, and events to advance TMRG objectives and brand positioning
  • Manage a consistent process for the market launch of new funds, including clear and concise product framing; developing standard product marketing collateral such as pitch decks, introductory web pages, overview summaries, preliminary financial models, and other diligence materials and supportive assets in a data room; and developing target outreach plans for potential investors

Operations, Systems, and Compliance

  • Oversee the consistent application and iteration of External Affairs business practices
  • Ensure internal team use of TMRG investor software platform, including that:
    • Investor and prospect accounts are entered, updated, and maintained regularly; inform account hierarchy if several entities are interrelated
    • Opportunity records accurately reflect product, amount, position, and stage 
    • Final investment records correctly capture the legal investor of record and all details
  • Leverage data-driven insights of the sales funnel to identify areas of opportunity and focus 
  • Coordinate across related teams to ensure a quality, investor-centered onboarding process 
  • As the main liaison between investors and TMRG’s internal teams, contribute to internal strategic goals and ambitious actions, and help to educate teammates on what investors may see as assets and flaws, what they want to be changed, what they don’t understand, and what will drive their continued and increasing support in current and future TMRG investment strategies (i.e. investor input, needs, and concerns)
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of the current regulatory environment and sector trends to ensure External Affairs compliance with laws, regulations, and standards

Team Leadership

  • As a deputy leader of External Affairs, manage prioritization and budgeting for the greatest efficacy, take initiative, and make administrative decisions to maintain forward momentum
  • Provide direct supervision of team members and manage vendor relationships
  • Develop policies and procedures for an awesome, efficient External Affairs team
  • Foster a collaborative, data-loving, and high-performance culture
  • Lead the team in addressing challenges inherent in startup environments, employing creative problem-solving and adaptability to navigate complexities and achieve goals
  • Instill an agile mindset within the team, promoting innovation, flexibility, and rapid iteration
  • Participate in the organization-wide Leadership group to continue growing professionally and build connections across departments

  • 8+ years of work experience in investor relations, marketing, communications, or similar role
  • 2+ years of experience in the financial services or social impact sectors 
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team and/or complex projects or programs 
  • Excellent attention to detail, document review, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a high level of professionalism to both internal and external audiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately with a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to be adaptable and responsive in an evolving startup environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines
  • Strong comfort with and demonstrated ability to learn technology tools, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, real estate management system(s), customer relationship management platform (Salesforce), project management systems (Asana), communication systems (Slack), and HRIS (Paycom)

Preference for candidates that also have one or more of the following:

  • Exposure to, or deep interest in, (impact) investing; this might include experience working directly with real estate investment funds or investment firms 
  • Fluency in another language beyond English
